COMPARISON

Tracker app, call logger, CRM extension, or a management view?

Search for WhatsApp tracking and four different products come back under one name. They answer four different questions, and the wrong one costs you either your team's trust or a month of setup. This page tells them apart.

Four tools share the name WhatsApp tracking. Tracker apps install on a handset and read everything on it, personal chats included. Call-logging apps log calls and record on Android only. CRM extensions sync chats from WhatsApp Web, per seat. A management view links company-owned numbers by QR code and shows the customer conversations, calls and deletions on those numbers.

Category rows, not a vendor scorecard. Everything below describes how each kind of tool works by construction.

Four kinds of WhatsApp tracking tool compared on where they install, what they can see, how they handle calls and deletions, iPhone support, visibility to the rep, API requirement and pricing basis.

Tracker apps: built for a phone you own and use yourself

The bare search term returns these. They install on an Android handset with deep permissions, read WhatsApp along with everything else on the phone, and are mostly sold to parents. On a company phone they read the rep's personal use too, they are hidden from the person holding the phone by design, and each one has to be installed and kept alive on every handset you issue. That is a great deal of trust to spend for a view of customer conversations, and it is not the tool a sales team needs.

Call-logging apps: for the team that needs the audio

An app on each phone that logs WhatsApp calls and, on Android, records them, then pushes the result into a CRM. If your requirement is the recording, this is the category and we are not in it. If your requirement is knowing who rang, who answered, how long they talked and who never heard back, call tracking gives you that from the linked number alone, on any phone, with nothing installed.

CRM extensions: chats become CRM records, at a desk

A browser extension on WhatsApp Web, priced per seat, that turns the chats a rep opens into CRM contacts and activities. Good at what it does for reps who work from a laptop. It sees what the rep syncs, it does not keep what was deleted, and a rep on the road with the phone in hand is outside it. A management view reads the number, not the rep's browser, so the two are often run together: the CRM for the pipeline, WAOversight for what was actually said and whether anyone replied.

A management view: the company number, read once, from the link

Each company-owned WhatsApp Business number is linked as a companion device, the same mechanism as WhatsApp Web, with one QR scan. From that moment every message and every call on the number is captured once into an archive nobody can edit. Managers see who replied and how fast, who is still waiting, the calls nobody returned, what was deleted and what stays when a rep leaves. Reps keep using the WhatsApp Business app on their company phones. The link shows under Linked devices, the team is told before it is made, and every manager view is written to an access log.

How to choose, in three questions

  1. Do you need to hear the calls? Then a call-logging app on Android, and nothing else on this page will do.
  2. Do your reps sell from the WhatsApp Business app on company phones, and do you want that to stay true? Then a management view. If you would rather move them to a desk and a new inbox, an API inbox tool.
  3. Would you be comfortable telling the team exactly what you can see? If the honest answer is no, the tool is wrong, whichever column it sits in. The employee page is the sentence-by-sentence version of what we show.

QUESTIONS

What buyers ask when they compare the four

Do I need a WhatsApp tracker app to see my sales team's chats?

No. A tracker app reads the whole phone and has to be installed on every handset. For a sales team on company-owned WhatsApp Business numbers, the number itself can be linked as a companion device with one QR scan, and a manager then sees the customer conversations and calls on that number, with nothing installed and no personal use touched.

Which tool records WhatsApp calls?

A call-logging app, installed on each handset, and on Android only. WAOversight logs calls, with direction, outcome and duration, and never records them. If recording is the requirement, we are the wrong purchase and this page is here to say so.

Is a CRM extension the same as tracking?

It is tracking of a different thing. A CRM extension turns chats into CRM records for the reps who work from WhatsApp Web at a desk, per seat. A management view reads every message and call on a company number, including the ones nobody synced, and keeps the deleted ones. Many teams run a CRM and WAOversight together.

Is this a spy app?

No. Company-issued numbers only. Nothing installed on anyone's phone. No stealth mode. Your team is told before a number is linked, and every manager view is written to a log nobody can edit. Spy apps hide from the person being monitored; this one is announced to them.

Is this even legal?

On company-owned numbers with written notice to staff, in most jurisdictions yes. We give you the policy and acknowledgement form to get it signed off. We are not lawyers; we give you the paperwork your HR needs.

We already have a CRM.

Keep it. A CRM records that a conversation happened, written up afterwards by the person it reflects on. We show what was actually said, including what was deleted. Most customers run both.

The management view, on one of your numbers, this afternoon.

One QR scan per company number. Your reps change nothing. You see who replied, who is waiting and who rang and never heard back.
